On March 3, 2012 at 12:00pm, we will gather at the Occupy camp across from the capitol building at Civic Center Park. We will then rally in solidarity with the indigenous and poor peoples of Peru and the Americas against Newmont Mining and corporate greed. A march will proceed down the 16th Street Mall to the statue of Christopher Columbus.
The country of Peru will have massive protests in Lima by the indigenous, workers, peasants, and poor people against exploitation by corporations. The rallies in Peru are focused on Newmont Mining’s exploitation of the Peruvian people and destruction of the environment. Newmont Mining Company is the largest gold mining corporation in the world. Its international headquarters is here in Denver. Wherever its operations reach, Newmont poisons the land, the water and the people. Native peoples have been especially hard hit – in Peru, Ghana, Indonesia, and among the Western Shoshone Nation in Nevada.
