Benefits of Epsom Salt Baths: A Powerful (and Cheap!) Detoxifier

Epsom salts have been used to treat a variety of health ailments by numerous cultures for centuries. Epsom salt baths have astounding health benefits and are an excellent way to destress and detoxify the whole body. However, these salts are not just beneficial for healing the human body. They are are useful as household cleaners and can even nourish the garden. You can find bulk Epsom salts at gardening stores almost everywhere, making them a real health bargain.
The name Epsom salts comes from its origination of a bitter saline spring found at Epsom in Surrey, England. Unlike other naturally occurring salts, Epsom salts are formed from a pure mineral compound containing magnesium and sulfate. Both magnesium and sulfate stimulate detoxification pathways in the body.

Epsom Salt Baths Help Prevent Magnesium Deficiency

More than 325 enzymes in our bodies require magnesium to properly function. Magnesium stimulates nerve and muscle function, limits inflammation, and improves oxygenation and blood flow through the body. Deficiencies in magnesium can cause significant damage to nerves which manifest in symptoms associated with depression.
Magnesium and sulfate are both fine consistency minerals that can be absorbed through our skin and taken up into the bloodstream. Just as your skin perspires to remove toxins through your pores, these same pores also allow minerals in.
Recall the process of reverse osmosis to understand the process which moves toxins out of the body and pulls magnesium and sulfate inward. When you soak in bathwater containing epsom salts, reverse osmosis occurs to help cleanse your body.

How Epsom Salt Baths Help Cancer Patients

Magnesium can also improve cancer patients overall wellbeing. Both the struggles of being a cancer patient as well as a lack of magnesium in the body are associated with symptoms of depression. Taking Epsom salt baths daily can help relieve symptoms of the illness and also reduce anxiety and irritability and improve sleep patterns.
Other symptoms such as constipation (a common side effect of chemotherapeutic drugs) can also be relieved by taking Epsom salt baths. Magnesium salt promotes gastric activity in the intestines which provides a laxative effect. The stimulation of movement in the gut and colon further promotes detoxification processes.
Sulfates are essential for the optimal health of joints, skin, and nervous tissue. When absorbed through the skin, sulfates can promote the health of these tissues. Sulfates also bind toxic impurities in the liver to render them less hazardous. Specifically, the sulfur component of sulfate salts is what binds to toxins, ensuring their elimination from the body.
The once fat-soluble toxin stored in the liver tissue is metabolized, becoming water soluble. It can then be effectively excreted as waste in urine. This detoxification pathway is referred to as Phase 2 liver detoxification, also known as the conjugation pathway. It is especially critical in cancer patients who have been overloaded with toxic chemotherapy drugs.
Phase 2 liver detoxification is dependent on co-factors such as sulfur to be absorbed by the body. In other words, without sulfur or other substances which bind to impurities, toxins from drugs and the environment accumulate and remain stored in the liver, causing dysfunction. When Phase 2 detoxification pathways are impaired, individuals may have symptoms of nausea, headaches and migraines, chronic fatigue, infections, chemical sensitivities, and bloating.
Cancer patients are particularly susceptible to these health concerns because of the high dose chemotherapeutic drugs used in treatment. Phase 2 detoxification pathways are involved in breaking down drugs and removing them from the body.

Epsom Salt Baths Reduce Inflammation

Epsom salts have been shown to improve many conditions associated with inflammation. Daily Epsom salt baths can treat gout, athlete’s foot, toenail fungus, bruises, sprains, and relax sore muscles. Individuals struggling with a chronic illness can also find pain relief from Epsom salt baths. This is due to the natural ability of the salts to pull out harmful toxins, improving both mineral and sulfur balance in the body.
However, you should not take Epsom salt baths if you are pregnant, have exposed cuts or burns on your skin, or are severely dehydrated. People who suffer from cardiovascular disease should first consult your doctor to see if it is safe to begin an Epsom salt bath regimen.

How to Take Epsom Salt Baths

Turn your Epsom salt bath treatment into a relaxing period as you will need at least 40 minutes to soak in the tub. Within the first 20 minutes of treatment the salts pull toxins out of your body through the skin. The second 20 minutes allows for the absorption of minerals to occur.
First you will need to fill up the bath with pure, warm water. A water filtration system in your home will improve your water’s quality ensuring that you do not soak in hazardous compounds such as chlorine, heavy metals, dioxins, or fluoride. Next, add the Epsom salts to the water as suggested below for standard sized bathtubs.

Children weighing under 60 lbs:

Pour 1⁄2 cup Epsom salts into water

Individuals weighing between 60-100 lbs:

Pour 1 cup of Epsom salts into water

Individuals weighing between 100-150 lbs:

Pour 1 1⁄2 cups of Epsom salts into water

Individuals weighing between 150-200 lbs:

Pour 2 cups of Epsom salts into water

Individuals weighing over 200 lbs:

Use 1⁄2 cup of Epsom salts for every 50 lb interval range

Tips for Getting Maximum Benefit From Your Epsom Salts Bath

  1. Add olive oil to your bath − Try adding 1⁄2 cup of olive to your bath water. Polyphenols found in olive oil contain antioxidant benefits which are easily absorbed into the skin. (Note: if using oil in the tub, take extra precaution to avoid slips and falls.)
  2. Add herbs & spices − The addition of cayenne pepper or a piece of ginger into the bath water can raise your heat levels promoting your body to sweat and draw out more toxins. Adding these herbs can stimulate the detoxification pathways with as little as 1 tablespoon up to as much as 1⁄2 cup.
  3. Don’t use soap − Avoid using soap when taking an Epsom salt bath to ensure the ingredients of the soap do not interact with or prevent the detoxification process from occurring.
  4. Take it easy afterwards − Taking an Epsom salt bath at night may be most feasible to ensure that you can rest for at least one hour after afterwards. However, if you have arthritic joints, you may choose to have treatment in the morning. This will help ensure that you can stay as active as possible following the bath in order to limit fatigued and achy joints.
  5. Add essential oils − Turn your Epsom salts bath into a luxurious spa treatment by adding several drops of essential oils to the water. Therapeutic oils such as lavender essential oil and frankincense can promote relaxation and stimulate healing and/or just use any essential oil(s) that you enjoy.

Gratitude Is The Medicine That Frees Human Beings - The Wisdom Of Beinsa Douno

Gratitude is the medicine which frees human beings from all difficulties and sufferings.  It is the medicine that transforms evil into good, the negative into positive.  Gratitude is a requirement in the awakening of consciousness.  Through gratitude a human being attracts God’s attention.  When we attract God’s attention to ourselves, He transforms evil into good.

Beinsa Douno (20 September 1936)

Nahko & Medicine For The People - We Shall Overcome

Published on Jun 16, 2016

I created this video because I wanted to share the positive message from Nahko Bear and Medicine for the People.

I do not own any copyrights on the music, and I do not make money from my YouTube video's.

Just trying to make the movement move!

Lyrics:

I'm on the verge of everything
Been lookin to be surrendering so honestly
Tiptoe to the edge of my destiny
Free fall backwards great mystery
Speakin to me, the pain of the youth
The confusion of the people and their struggle for truth
Yeah, regroup and renew
Time to regroup, renew the ambition of a nation
Zombies treadin on decaying foundation
Wasting, creating hostility among us
Turning our back on our mother
We're turning our back on our mother

Look at what we've done
I remember...
I remember...
I forgive
I remember...
I remember...
I remember...
I forgive

These people are relentless, senseless, violent and racist
Providing installation in my day to day, endless
Positivity can definitely be contagious
Persuasive, 'cause I'm speaking my truth
I got my pennies in my pockets, but I'm picking fresh fruits
Yeah, picking fresh fruits
got my pennies in my pockets, but I'm picking fresh fruits
Yeah, whoaoh
'Cause I live in a land of abundance
Where the rain off my roof is sacred and precious
And then we get the work to be found while riding horses (?)
we all must split the courage of we locked to front (?)
Bringin it back to the land when there was food to hunt
And yeah, when there was food to hunt
And yeah, oh

I got one last thing on my mind
I remember...
I remember...
I forgive
I remember...
I remember...
I remember...
I forgive

I'm learning the language of the planet
We inhabit and stab it with
The chemicals that we practice
And I've had it with habits, it's tragic
This trajectory course that we're on
Separated from the dirt, from ourselves, from the song
Every robot sings, with his hand to his heart:
"I will kill for god, and I will hit my mark
And I will stand, like a fool, for free cuz of the treason"
Nobody's bothering me, but other countries are weeping
Choppin the mountains in half
Can't you hear the earth screamin?
Whoaoh, can't you hear the Earth screamin?
Oh
Blood oil for dinner, better have an appetite
Yeah, Cuz we rape, pillage and plunder

So you can heat your house tonight
I remember...
I remember...
I forgive
I remember...
I remember...
I remember...
I forgive
I'm learning the language of the planet
We inhabit and stab it with
The chemicals that we practice
And I've had it with habits, it's tragic
This trajectory course that we're on
Separated from the dirt, from ourselves, from the song
Every robot sings, with his hand to his heart:
"I will kill for god, and I will hit my mark
And I will stand, like a fool, for free cuz of the treason"
Nobody's bothering me, but other countries are weeping
Choppin the mountains in half
Can't you hear the earth screamin?
Whoaoh, can't you hear the Earth screamin?
Oh
Blood oil for dinner, better have an appetite
Yeah, Cuz we rape, pillage and plunder

So you can heat your house tonight
I remember...
I remember...
I forgive
I remember...
I remember...
I remember...
I forgive

All my empowered people, put your ones up!
Recognize our tribes are independant and restless
Searching for purpose beneath the rubble and wreckage
The message: Forgiveness starts with me!
Yeah! With me!
Stop blaming other people, take on the responsibility
Of generations to come
May they live in a world without governments and guns
Without governments and guns
Hey
Whoaoh
Your people who killed my people
My people kill your people
But our people are all one people
United by compassion for humanity's sake
We wake and meditate on the light of a new day
New chapter in the book of a thousand tongues
Yeah, a thousand tongues

We shall overcome
I remember...
I remember...
I forgive

Yeah, we shall overcome
(We shall overcome)
Yeah, we shall overcome
(We shall overcome)
I remember, I remember
(We shall overcome)
I remember, I remember
(We shall overcome)
Yeah, we shall overcome
(We shall overcome)
I remember, I remember
(We shall overcome)
Ooo yeah, I forgive
(We shall overcome)
I remember, I remember....

Your Medicine is in Your Pantry by Karta Purkh Khalsa

Your Medicine is in Your Pantry

by Karta Purkh Khalsa

Green Med Info.    27 May 2016

Food has been the medicine of humanity since the dawn of time. Many herbs that we associate only with seasoning our food are, in fact, potent herbal medicines.

The distinction between herbal food and herbal medicine is actually quite subjective. There is a wide area of overlap with the two categories. If you think of all the plants we consume, for whatever purpose, as being on a spectrum, from food on one end, to medicine on the other, you will see what I mean. On the food end would be plants like potatoes and carrots- potentially medicinal, but mild and safe. The other end of the spectrum contains medicine plants like opium poppy and foxglove, the source of digitalis- definitely not food, but clearly serious medicine.

The gray area is in the middle. Take echinacea. None of us would consider sitting down to a delicious bowl of echinacea soup. Yuck. But you could. And it would be safe. How about parsley? In a salad, it’s a food. Used as a juice to treat edema, it’s a medicine.
The truth is, herbal medicines have about the same chemical components as food plants. Herbal medicines are just selected from plants that have greater concentrations of active ingredients, making them more convenient to use.

European herbal medicine, the tradition from which contemporary American herbalism mainly derives, does not see much overlap between food plants and herbal medicines. Foods you eat, spices make the food taste better, and herbal medicine you take in a tincture. Asian medical systems, however, make no distinction between the two. Food is just less concentrated herbal medicine, and every meal is viewed as a chance to get in more healing herbs. In fact, the Chinese word for the medicinal brew that people use daily to maintain their health is “soup.”

The complex cuisines of China and India began, thousands of years ago, as recipes to get healing herbs and foods into people. Gradually, as the process evolved, complicated mixtures of food ingredients, herbal medicines, and flavorings coalesced into a tasty amalgam that warms the soul, heals the body, and pleases the palate.

For example, Indian food typically starts with a combination, a “masala”, of onions, garlic, ginger, and other various spices, selected for their medicinal virtues, and taste. Since many of these herbs can cause gas, additional herbs, such as fennel and coriander seeds, are added to counteract that tendency. Ginger and mustard, for example, speed up the digestive process, so that the meal is efficiently processed and moved through the digestive tract.

Although the list of herbal medicine foods is huge, here is a selection of remedies that are easy to find, and particularly effective.

The carrot and parsley family (Umbelliferae), in particular, is a huge source of edible plants and good tasting medicines. These plants grow all over the world, and are used in a broad range of cultures. This group of plant medicines has unusual chemistry, so they make their way into the kitchens and medicine chests of many native medical systems. The seeds are typically the medicinal part, but various parts are used, depending on the plant. Some well-known members of this family include parsley, coriander (cilantro is coriander greens), fennel, anise, cumin, and dill.

Plants in this family contain compounds that act like calcium channel blockers, benefiting angina. Herbs in this family generally have estrogenic action, especially the seeds. The popular Chinese herb dong quai is in this family. These parsley relatives are prized around the world for treating intestinal gas, a property herbalists call “carminative.”

Fennel

In my personal clinical experience, I would pick fennel seed as the premiere carminative in the world, especially for adults. Literally, I have never seen a case of painful gas that was not relieved by fennel seeds, provided of course, that the dose was high enough.

Fennel contains creosol and alpha- pinene, substances that loosen lung mucus and help clear the chest, benefiting asthma. (1) Recent research shows that this spice also lowers blood pressure. (2)

This herb has been used for centuries to promote lactation, which makes sense, from what we now know about its hormonal action. It will also hasten a period. As a bonus, it increases libido.

For gas, try chewing 1 Tbs. of the tasty seeds, or brew a tea with 1 Tbs. seeds in a cup of water. You may use the powdered seeds as a seasoning, or in capsules.

Of course, you can also steam the stalk as a delicious celery-like vegetable. The properties are similar, but milder than the seed.

Dill

Dill seed is, for gas, for children, what fennel seed is for adults. Called “the secret of British nannies,” dill is the active ingredient in the famous “gripe water,” the colic remedy taken round the world in the British empire.

Dill seed is truly miraculous for infant colic. It can save a parent’s sanity. Dill promotes menstruation, so it can be used to encourage a late period. For adults, dill, along with fennel, treats heartburn. (1) The weed is milder. In a pinch, fennel and dill can be interchanged. For infant colic, brew 2 Tbs. dill seed in 1 cup of water, cool, sweeten, put in a bottle or dropper, and serve to the screaming baby. You will carry a sleeping tyke back to bed.

Parsley

Ever notice that green sprig of garnish at the edge of your plate? Usually discarded, that parsley is one powerful herbal medicine. While the seeds, leaf, and root of this plant are all used for food, the main herbal uses come from the leaf.

Parsley is a source, as you might expect, of phytoestrogens, so it has potential for treating osteoporosis and amenorrhea, and for promoting lactation.
This medicine has a long history of use with the urinary system. Research shows that it is diuretic (3), and it has a long history of herbal use in treating bladder infection.

Parsley treats angina. (1) Crushed, and applied to a bruise, it heals. It inhibits the release of histamine, so is useful for allergies and hives. It prevents and treats kidney stones. (4)

Parsley is a treasure trove of vitamins and minerals. It is a rich source of boron and fluorine, critical minerals for bone health. It contains 3.5 times as much vitamin C as oranges, and twice as much calcium as broccoli.

Because parsley is a rich source of calcium, magnesium, and potassium, it is an effective treatment for cramps, such as leg cramps. (5)

Three ounces of parsley contains about 3 mg of boron, the dose suggested for bone health. In my clinical experience, a dose of about 2 ounces per day of parsley juice treats edema very well.

Parsley leaf is widely available in capsule form, both as a single herb, and in combination. It works well as a digestive aid combined with turmeric. A typical dose would be 2-9 grams per day, but, of course, this herb is very safe at any dose.

Thyme

Thyme contains anti-aging chemicals. (1) Historically, this herb has been used for headache.

Thyme is known as a general antimicrobial, especially for bacterial infection, and an expectorant, which also treats fever, so it is a well-known treatment for diseases like the flu.

One ingredient, thymol, has antiviral properties, and is also antispasmodic, so it is used in headache and cramps. (6)

Use thyme as a tea, or gargle.
